Temperature

Upper Oven Heats, Lower Does Not. One Fault or Two?

The short answer

Almost always one. Two cavities in one appliance share a supply and a control, so a single failure in either shows up as one dead oven and one that carries on. What the working cavity does while the cold one is asked to heat narrows it fast. Wolf Appliance Repair Denver starts there rather than with a part: (720) 807-8323.

Why it does that

A lower cavity that will not heat is a description of where the owner is standing, not of where the fault is. What reaches the appliance reaches it once, and the interface that takes the settings is one interface, so a cold cavity may be reporting something it does not own. The genuinely two-fault case exists and is rare: two independent parts giving up in the same month. A visit therefore starts from the assumption of one cause, and the cavity that still works is what tests it.

How a double oven is fed ONE SUPPLY SPLIT UPPER CAVITY LOWER CAVITY AND THE CONTROLS
A double oven is wired as one appliance. Whatever reaches it is shared between both cavities and the controls, which is why a dead panel is so often upstream of both.

What to watch, in order

Ask the cold cavity for heat and watch three things. Does the interface accept the setting at all, or does that half of the panel ignore you? Does anything start — a fan, a click, a light? And does the working cavity change what it is doing while the cold one is running? A cavity that takes a setting and then does nothing is a different fault from one that will not take the setting in the first place, and that difference is worth more than a guess about a part. Two of the three are settled without the appliance leaving its column.

When it is a repair

What it turns out to be Parts and labour

Oven thermostat or sensor calibration
$190–$440 Oven thermostat or sensor calibration
Control board or touch panel
$450–$860 Control board or touch panel

Ranges, not starting prices — what moves inside one is the part and how far the oven has to come out of its column. The $89 diagnosis comes off the figure once you approve it.
