Oven Repair

Built-in wall ovens, stacked double columns and the cavity inside a range: heat that drifts, convection that stalls, doors that stop shutting square.

Three different appliances answer to the word oven here, and they fail in three different ways. A wall oven is a box set into joinery, so the column it stands in decides how the door behaves and where its cooling air goes. A double oven is two of those stacked, fed from one supply, which is why a dead lower cavity is so often not about the lower cavity. The oven inside a range is the same cavity with a cooktop bolted over it and a gas burner under its floor.

Which one you have changes the diagnosis before anybody opens a door, so this page is the top of a short tree rather than the end of one: the series and configurations we repair below it, and the questions people ring about beside that.

What people describe on the phone

  • Set to 350, behaving like 300, and everything comes out pale
  • Convection howls on start-up and then goes quiet mid-roast
  • Door sits proud of the cabinet face at one top corner
  • Latch keeps buzzing and the door will not let go

Lines covered by this repair

  • M Series and E Series wall ovens 30 in single · double · Temperature drift, convection blowers, hinge springs, door seals, latch motors
  • Convection steam ovens and warming drawers 24 · 30 in · Scaled generators and intake valves, fill faults, drawer elements

What it costs

What the repair itself runs

Six bands cover nearly every Wolf cooking fault in a Denver kitchen — parts, and the labour to fit them. Each one is a range, because the same symptom can turn out to be an electrode or the board sitting behind it.

The service call

Diagnosis is $89: a single flat charge covering the drive out and the fault-finding, then deducted from whichever repair you decide to approve.

Once the readings are in you are given one firm number from inside whichever band the fault falls in, agreed with you before anything is dismantled further. Approve it and the service call comes off that number. Say no and the visit ends there.

Repair band Parts and labour

Igniter or spark module
$180–$460
Burner valve or orifice service
$260–$620
Oven thermostat or sensor calibration
$190–$440
Convection fan or motor
$290–$660
Control board or touch panel
$450–$860
Door hinge, glass or seal
$270–$710

These are ranges, not starting prices. What moves inside one is the part itself and how far the unit has to come out of its cabinetry. A part that lifts out of the front of the appliance and one that waits behind a panel can belong to the same band and still take a different morning.

In their words

Denver kitchens, after the van left

Cherry Creek, Washington Park, Highland and Capitol Hill.

  • Top cavity said 350 and baked more like 300, which up here makes everything worse. Sensor replaced, calibration reset, then he laid his own thermometer on the middle rack so I could see it agree.

    Mariel P.Cherry Creek

  • The broiler heated on the left half only and filled the flat with smoke. A break near one terminal, which he put on the meter for me. Part came off the van. Fine ever since.

    Zola B.Cheesman Park

  • The door had sagged and heat was escaping over the handle. Stretched hinge springs. New springs and a seal, and he set the door twice until it shut square against our 1920s cabinetry.

Oven Repair questions

Asked about oven repair

How do I know the oven is actually running cold and not just baking slowly?

Put an independent thermometer on the middle rack, let the oven soak for forty-five minutes after it says it is up to temperature, then read it. A drift of more than about 25°F is a fault; less than that and altitude is doing most of the work.

My steam oven throws a fill fault. Water or valve?

Usually scale from Denver water, in the generator and the intake valve both. It is a descale, sometimes a valve, and worth putting the descale cycle in the calendar afterwards.

The door will not release and the latch motor keeps buzzing.

Do not force it. A buzzing latch motor is either jammed on a cam or the motor is failing with the cavity still hot. It can be freed on the visit and the motor replaced without pulling the oven out of the cabinetry.

Model on the door, what the panel says, what the burner or the fan is actually doing. That is enough to bring the right part on the first visit.
